Police Make Arrest in Mount Rainier Homicide

     Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has arrested William Knight, 20, in connection with the homicide of Alonzo James Guyton that occurred earlier this week in Mount Rainier, Maryland.


     On October 25, 2011 at approximately 12:02 a.m., officers from the Mount Rainier Police Department responded to the 4200 block of Kaywood Drive for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Guyton suffering from gunshot wounds to his body. Guyton was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

     Through the course of their investigation, homicide detectives developed William Knight, of the 800 block of Kennedy Street N.E. in Washington D.C., as a suspect in the case. Detectives subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Knight charging him with first degree murder. On October 28, 2011, the arrest warrant was served on Knight at the D.C. Jail where he was being held on an unrelated charge. Pursuant to the first degree murder charge, Knight was placed on a no bond status. Extradition to Prince George’s County is pending.
