PGPD Partners With Brandywine Residents to Clean up Illegal Dump Site

In 1999, Charles and Yvonne Branson moved into the Simms Lane community in Brandywine.  While walking near their home, they discovered an illegal dumping site at the Zekiah Swamp.  Household and commercial trash was littered across the area, including furniture, appliances, cars, tires and lawn mowers.

The Bransons contacted the Prince George’s County Police Department’s District V Station and asked for help to close down the illegal dumping site.  The PGPD was happy to help.  Police officers, the Bransons, the Department of Community Standards, the Department of Public Works and other government agencies began a massive cleanup project.
Now, after years of working together, the Zekiah Swamp is no longer a trash dump. It’s instead a thriving habitat.
