Chief Magaw Statement on Conviction of Kelly Gilliss

Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw today released a statement following the conviction of Kelly Gilliss who shot at three of our police officers in July of 2012. One of our police officers was shot in the leg. Sentencing is scheduled for January 2014.

“I want to thank the jury for its service to the community and thank the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney and her office for their dedication to seeking justice in this case. Our entire police family is gratified that Kelly Gilliss will spend time behind bars for his reckless and potentially deadly behavior. He showed no regard for our police officers or the community when he opened fire outside the Galaxy night club in Langley Park. The men and women of the Prince George’s County Police Department put their lives on the line every day and when one of our officers is attacked, it’s an attack on our entire community. Thankfully, our wounded police officer survived her injuries and our two other officers on scene were not hurt.”
