PGPD Makes Quick Arrest in Suitland Homicide

Nelson Ford

The Prince George’s County Police Department made a quick arrest in connection with an early morning homicide in Suitland. The suspect is 36-year-old Nelson Howard Ford of the 5600 block of Emerson Street in Bladensburg. The victim is 26-year-old Willard Darnell Smith of Brooks Drive in District Heights. Detectives do not believe this was a random act.

On July 13, 2015, about 2:00 am, patrol officers were called to the 4700 block of Huron Avenue for a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a man outside suffering from a stab wound. He died a short time later at a hospital.

Through investigative techniques, patrol officers learned details about the suspect. They spotted Ford walking nearby and took him into custody. Preliminarily, it appears an argument between the suspect and victim escalated into the fatal stabbing. Ford is facing a charge of first degree murder.
