Chief Stawinski Announces Officer’s Indictment

A Prince George’s County Police officer is now suspended without pay after being indicted by a grand jury today.

Police Officer Francesco Marlett faces charges of child abuse and assault. The allegations involve conduct with a three-year-old child in his care while he was off duty at a home in Upper Marlboro on December 27, 2015.

Our Internal Affairs Division launched an investigation after learning of the incident. Officer Marlett’s police powers were first suspended with pay in December.

Chief Hank Stawinski said today, “This incident shows family violence affects people in every profession, in all walks of life. We take these allegations very seriously. The issue of family violence is one we are committed to preventing. Our Internal Affairs Division and our Criminal Investigation Division presented this case to the State’s Attorney’s Office. We will continue partnering with the State’s Attorney on this matter.”

Marlett has been employed by the department for three years and is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, District IV.
