Detectives Arrest Suspect in Bowie Homicide in July

Homicide Unit detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in Bowie in July. The suspect is 26-year-old Jamal Ford of the 3000 block of 1st Street in Southeast Washington. 

At about 10:40 pm on July 30th, officers with the Bowie Police Department responded to the 15700 block of Everst Drive for a welfare check on a man in a roadway.  The officers found the victim, 44-year-old Cleve Monnity of Lanham, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect and the victim were in an ongoing dispute which escalated into the fatal shooting.

Ford was arrested today at his home with the assistance of the Metropolitan Police Department. He is awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
