2006 Child Abuse Victim Dies in 2016; Case Ruled a Homicide in 2017

Elanis Milfort of Bowie was a baby when she suffered a head injury in a child abuse case in 2006. Ten years later, at the age of 10, the young girl passed away.  A year after her death, the autopsy now reveals the manner was homicide.  

On June 8th, 2006, detectives were notified when Milfort, then six-months-old, was originally treated for a head trauma. Detectives arrested her father, Lionel Milfort, and charged him with child abuse.  He was released from prison in June of 2014.  
In March of 2016, the victim underwent surgery to treat a spinal condition that was a result of the head trauma in 2006. She suffered complications and passed away three days after surgery.
At the end of June, 2017, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia ruled the death a homicide. All follow up investigation will be handled by our Homicide Cold Case unit.   The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office will determine whether any additional charges will be filed in this case.

Victim from 2015 Shooting Dies from Injuries

Homicide Unit detectives have taken over an investigation into a 2015 shooting now that the victim has died of his injuries. The victim was 22-year-old Delonio Richburg of Van Buren Street in Annapolis. At the time of the shooting two years ago, detectives did not believe the shooting was random. 

On July 26th, 2015, at about 1:30 am, patrol officers responded to the 3500 block of Hubbard Road for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers discovered two victims outside suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the hospital in critical condition but were later released.  On July 1st, 2017, Richburg was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment where he died. An autopsy later revealed that he died from complications of the shooting.

The case was originally handled by the Regional Investigation Division and is now being handled by the Homicide Unit.

Detectives are still working to establish a motive and to identify the suspect(s) in this case. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Largo

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash in Largo earlier this morning. The victim is 28-year-old Trashawn Haggins of Gibson Street in Falls Church, VA.

On July 20th, at about 6:30 am, patrol officers were called to White House Road near Harry S. Truman Drive for the report of a crash involving a dump truck.

The preliminary investigation reveals Haggins was heading eastbound on White House Road when for reasons which remain under investigation, she appears to have lost control of the truck while on a curve. The dump truck ultimately struck a utility pole. Haggins was pronounced dead on the scene.

Wanted Wednesday

Robbery Investigation


We’re starting Wanted Wednesday this week with an investigation into an armed robbery. These two masked suspects are wanted for robbing a convenience store in Capitol Heights. They robbed the business in the 7000 block of Central Avenue on July 16th shortly before 4:00 am. We are offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case. Burglary Investigation




Detectives are also working to arrest the two suspects who broke into a liquor store in Beltsville on July 6th. The store is on Baltimore Avenue. Once inside, the suspects stole cash and dozens of bottles of liquor. The suspects fled in a navy blue hatchback. If you have any information on this case, please call 301-937-0910. 

Robbery Suspect



This suspect robbed a business in the 1000 block of Addison Road South in Capitol Heights. He targeted the store around 9:20 am on July 14th. No one was hurt in this robbery. Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting in Laurel

Detectives with our Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation into a fatal shooting in Laurel Tuesday night. The victim is 17-year-old Dustin Khoury of Thomas Lane in Sparrows Point, MD. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random shooting.

On July 18th, at about 8:25 pm, patrol officers were called to Contee Road and Larchdale Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim in a car with a gunshot wound to his body. He died a short time later at a hospital.

PGPD Identifies Victim of Sunday's Homicide in Riverdale

Updated July 20, 2017: The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Santos Morales of Riverdale Road in Riverdale. Detectives are actively working to find and arrest the suspect(s) who killed Mr. Morales. Anyone who has information is urged to please call 1-866-411-TIPS. Homicide Unit detectives today released a composite sketch of the unidentified homicide victim who was found Sunday in Riverdale. Investigators are asking for the community’s help in identifying him so we can notify his family. The victim has no distinguishing marks or tattoos on his body. He is described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 35-40.

On July 16th, at about 4:10 am, patrol officers responded to the 6200 block of 60th Avenue for a welfare check. The officers discovered the victim in the roadway. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital. An autopsy revealed the man died from multiple injuries unknown cause. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Detectives are also working to identify the suspect(s) and motive in this case. The investigators will conduct a canvass this evening in the hopes of gathering additional information. The canvass will begin at 7:00 pm in the 6200 block of 60th Avenue.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

PGPD Searches for Missing Teenager

The Prince George’s County Police Department is asking for our community’s help to find a missing teenager. She is 15-year-old Junshan Shen. She was last seen near 55 Hampton Park Boulevard in Capitol Heights on Saturday morning around 4:40 am.

Preliminarily, detectives do not believe there is any foul play associated with Shen’s disappearance. Currently it’s believed she left on her own.

Shen is described as an Asian female, 5’2” and 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black jacket with white writing on the back.

Detectives Release Surveillance Video of Homicide Suspects




Homicide Unit detectives today released surveillance video of three suspects wanted in connection with a double homicide in Suitland last week. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case. Tipsters will never have to give their name.

On July 9th, at about 7:20 pm, patrol officers responded to the 4600 block of Silver Hill Road for the report of a shooting.
Twenty-two-year-old Courtney Simms of 23rd Parkway in Temple Hills and 23-year-old Anthony Douglas of 28th Avenue in Marlow Heights were fatally wounded. The shooting occurred in an alleyway between two businesses.

In the surveillance video, the three suspects are seen getting out of a car and then walking out of the screen toward the victims. After the shooting, one of the suspects is seen running back to the car.

He does not have any distinguishing marks or tattoos on his body. His name will be released once he’s been identified and after his family is notified.

PGPD to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint


The Special Operations Division will conduct a sobriety checkpoint this Friday, July 21, 2017 from 9:00 pm to 3:00 am. Officers will focus on the southern portion of the county. This is one of the many checkpoints that will be conducted throughout the year.

Suspect in Custody for Homicide in Forestville

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit charged a suspect in connection with a homicide in Forestville on June 28, 2017. He is 20-year-old Torey Geonte Stockton of the 6400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Forestville.

On June 28th, at 8:05 pm, patrol officers responded to the 6400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, the officers discovered the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The victim was 25-year-old Jerelle Burnett of Curtis Drive in Temple Hills.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect and victim were involved in a verbal altercation prior to the shooting.

Stockton is charged with first and second degree murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in District Heights

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash involving a motorcycle and a parked vehicle. The operator of the motorcycle, 31-year-old Dennis Davidson of Pennsylvania Avenue in District Heights, was killed in the collision.

The crash occurred on Tuesday, July 12, 2017, at 1:15 pm, in the 6600  block of Hilmar Drive in District Heights.

The preliminary investigation reveals Davidson was heading southbound on Hilmar Drive when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane of Hilmar Drive and struck a parked car.   Davidson was taken to Prince George’s County Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead.  No other individuals were injured in the collision.

Suspect in Custody for Double Homicide in City of District Heights

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit charged a suspect in connection with a double homicide in District Heights last Thursday. He is 20-year-old Karon Moore of the 6500 block of Hilmar Drive in Forestville.

On July 6th, at about 12:55 am, City of District Heights officers and Prince George’s County Police officers responded to a call for sounds of gunshots in the 6600 block of Atwood Street. When they arrived, they found the two victims outside in an apartment complex parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead on the scene. The victims are 34-year-old Phillip Michael of 13th Street in Southeast Washington and 31-year-old Kenneth Edmonds of Atwood Street.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect and victims were part of a larger group that had been in an argument prior to the shootings. The suspect and victims were acquaintances. 

Moore is charged with first and second degree murder. He’s in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting in District Heights

Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in District Heights Tuesday morning. The decedent is 29-year-old Traumone Lesene of Canal Street in Southwest Washington. Preliminarily, this does not appear to be a random shooting. 

On July 11th, at about 2:40 am, patrol officers responded to the 1500 block of Forest Park Drive for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, the officers discovered Lesene outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. A second man was also located suffering from a gunshot wound. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Preliminarily, detectives are investigating whether the shooter’s actions were justified.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Double Shooting in Suitland

Homicide Unit detectives are working to find the suspect(s) who fatally shot two men Sunday in Suitland. The victims are 22-year-old Courtney Simms of 23rd Parkway in Temple Hills and 23-year-old Anthony Douglas of 28th Avenue in Marlow Heights. A cash reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On July 9th, at about 7:20 pm, patrol officers responded to the 4600 block of Silver Hill Road for the report of a double shooting. Two of our officers were nearby and responded within minutes, deploying their department-issued trauma kits. Simms was pronounced dead on the scene. Douglas was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The preliminary investigation reveals the two victims were shot outside in an alleyway between two businesses. Detectives are working to identify the suspect(s) and motive.

Detectives Arrest Man for Domestic-Related Homicide in Bowie

The Homicide Unit arrested a man in connection with the murder of his stepfather. The suspect is 38-year-old Navar Beverly of the 15000 block of Dalby Court in Bowie. The victim is 65-year-old Ronald Pinkney also of Dalby Court. 

On July 8th, around 8:20 am, officers with the City of Bowie Police Department responded to the 15000 block of Dalby Court after receiving a 911 call about a resident found deceased. When they arrived, they found the victim inside of his home suffering from apparent trauma. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death a homicide. The cause of death was asphyxiation. 

Responding City of Bowie officers were able to quickly gather the suspect’s information and the van he was likely driving. This information was provided to police agencies throughout the region. Shortly thereafter, the suspect’s van was seen driving on Hampton Park Boulevard by our patrol officers. Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop, at which time the suspect fled. Officers pursued the van, with the pursuit coming to an end at the intersection of Central Avenue and Devonwood Drive. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was arrested.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect and victim had a history of disputes, both verbal and physical.

Beverly is charged with first and second degree murder. He is in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Capitol Heights

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Capitol Heights. The victim is 29-year-old Sontonio Thompson of Parkland Drive in Forestville.

On July 3rd, around 11:55 pm, patrol officers were called to the area of Pennsylvania Avenue near Brooks Drive for a crash involving an SUV and a pedestrian. Thompson was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he died of his injuries on July 5th.

The preliminary investigation reveals the SUV was traveling westbound on Pennsylvania Avenue when it struck Thompson who was attempting to cross the roadway. At the time of the collision, Thompson was not in a crosswalk. The driver of the SUV was uninjured and remained on the scene.

Detectives Charge Two Suspects in December 2016 Homicide

The Homicide Unit has charged two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting in Capitol Heights in December. The suspects are 28-year-old Julius Senior of the 2400 block of Baikal Loop in Upper Marlboro and 22-year-old Jamal Garner of the 50th block of Bryant Street in Northwest DC. They’re both charged in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Carrington Carter II of Windjammer Court in Fort Washington.

On December 30th, at about 10:10 pm, the victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds outside in the 7100 block of White Pearl Place. He died a short time later at a hospital. 

The preliminary investigation reveals the fatal shooting stemmed from an illegal drug transaction.  

Senior is charged with first and second degree murder. Garner is charged with attempted first and second degree murder. They are both in  custody in the District and are awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.

Suspect in Custody for July 4th Homicide in Landover

Homicide Unit detectives today arrested a suspect for a fatal shooting in Landover on Tuesday. The suspect is 24-year-old Thomas Tyrone Sanders of the 6500 block of Columbia Terrace in Landover. 

On July 4th, at about 3:40 pm, the Prince George’s County Police Department was alerted to two shooting victims who were driven to a local hospital. One of the victims, 33-year-old Demarco Robinson of Lanham, was pronounced dead a short time later. The second victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. The investigation revealed the two victims had been shot inside of a car near a liquor store in the 7300 block of Landover Road.
In the early morning hours of July 6th, an alert patrol officer spotted a van that matched the suspect’s van. The van was being towed on St. Barnabas Road in Temple Hills. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the tow truck. While speaking to detectives, the tow truck driver confirmed the van was owned by his son, Thomas Sanders.

The preliminary investigation reveals the occupants of the suspect’s van got into a dispute with the occupants of the victims’ car right before the shootings. 

Sanders is charged with first and second degree murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
